Africa’s leading gender equity advocacy group in the energy industry, Women in Energy Network (WIEN), has congratulated the board and management of Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) Limited on the appointment of Wola Joseph-Condotti as the company’s Interim Chief Executive Officer.

EKEDC announced the leadership change on 14 January following the takeover of its board by Transgrid Enerco. The transition led to the resignation of the previous board led by West Power and Gas Limited (WPG).

As part of the board reconstitution, Transgrid Enerco appointed Engr. (Dr.) Olubunmi Peters as Chairman, alongside Prof. George Nwangwu, Faruk Aliyu, Kolapo Joseph, Rasheed Olaoluwa and Ayo Gbeleyi as Directors.

The new board subsequently appointed Joseph-Condotti as Interim CEO, citing confidence in her leadership capability, deep institutional knowledge and ability to ensure operational continuity, growth and stakeholder satisfaction.

In a statement, the board said Joseph-Condotti brings extensive experience in the power sector and a strong understanding of EKEDC’s operations, with a mandate to consolidate gains, strengthen execution and foster a high-performance culture focused on customer satisfaction, innovation, staff engagement and sustainable growth.

Joseph-Condotti previously served as Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of West Power & Gas Limited, EKEDC’s former parent company, as well as other energy-related companies. She is widely recognized as a thought leader in the energy sector, with a strong focus on renewable energy, sustainability and carbon markets.

She also served as EKEDC’s pioneer Chief Legal Officer and Company Secretary; and held key roles including Head of Regulatory Compliance and Chief Human Resources and Administration Officer.

Joseph-Condotti holds a law degree from the University of Ibadan, an LLM from Harvard Law School and an MBA from INSEAD Business School. Her professional achievements include being named among the top 100 General Counsels in Nigeria by the Legal 500 GC Powerlist in 2024.

Mrs Fatai-Williams commended EKEDC’s board on recognizing Joseph-Condotti’s skills and leadership qualities, pledging WIEN’s full support for her tenure. She described the appointment as a logical and forward-looking decision, adding that Joseph-Condotti’s credentials and track record make her well suited for the role.

WIEN also noted that previous female chief executives at EKEDC recorded strong performance, describing the company as a leading example of gender inclusivity in the energy sector.

According to Mrs Fatai-Williams, the appointment reflects WIEN’s broader vision for corporate governance that recognizes the growing leadership capacity of Nigerian women while building strong and resilient institutions.

WIEN’s Executive Secretary, Engr. Asanimo Omezi, described the appointment as a significant step forward for gender balance in corporate leadership within Nigeria’s energy industry.

“Wola’s appointment demonstrates EKEDC’s commitment to building a more diverse and inclusive leadership structure,” Omezi said, adding that WIEN remains committed to providing support, visibility and opportunities for its members in leadership positions.
