The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has reaffirmed its commitment to staff welfare and human capital development in honor of the late Comrade Uche Marcus Okoro, as the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) marked the 20th anniversary of his passing.

In a statement, the Commission said the pledge reflects the values and principles championed by Comrade Okoro during his lifetime as a leading figure in Nigeria’s labo movement.

Comrade Okoro, a former President of PENGASSAN, died in the Sosoliso Airlines plane crash on 10 December 2005. He remains the only individual to have served as President of both PENGASSAN and the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), a distinction NUPRC described as a testament to his exceptional leadership qualities.

The Commission praised the late unionist for his resilience, dedication and unwavering commitment to the welfare of Nigerian oil and gas workers, noting that PENGASSAN immortalized his contributions by naming its national headquarters the U. M. Okoro House.

NUPRC also expressed solidarity with PENGASSAN on the 20th remembrance of the late labor leader and commiserated with his family.

The Commission prayed that God Almighty continues to grant strength and comfort to his wife, children and loved ones.
