Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited (SNEPCo) has been honored with the award for Best Oilfield Development Projects at the 9th Nigeria International Energy Summit (NIES), held in Abuja.

Corporate Communications Manager, Gladys Afam-Anadu, stated that the award recognizes SNEPCo’s pioneering role in Nigeria’s deep-water oil and gas development, following its successful commencement of production at the Bonga field in 2005. The project marked Nigeria’s first oilfield development in water depths exceeding 1,000 metres.
Further milestones include the Bonga Northwest project, which came on stream in 2015. The latest recognition comes as development work advances on the Bonga North project, for which a Final Investment Decision (FID) was taken in December 2024.
Commenting on the award, SNEPCo Managing Director, Mr. Ronald Adams, said the recognition reflects the company’s long-standing contribution to Nigeria’s energy sector.
“We’re pleased with this recognition of our leading role in developing Nigeria’s deep-water oil and gas resources. With the support of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, our co-venture partners, and our dedicated staff, we will continue to operate safely and deliver consistent value as we power progress in Nigeria,” he said.
The Nigeria International Energy Summit is a major platform for global energy stakeholders. This year’s edition attracted about 5,000 participants from over 30 countries, including ministers, chief executives, and industry experts.
The four-day summit was held under the theme: “Energy for Peace and Prosperity: Securing Our Shared Future.”
