• NNPC supporting refineries meet Africa’s fuel demand

The Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Amina Mohammed, has declared intention of the global body to prioritize scalable solutions for mitigating Africa’s food crisis.

Ms Mohammed who led a delegation on a visit to Dangote Industries Limited in Lagos, Nigeria, called for integrated industrial model that mitigates the continent’s food crisis.

“I think the UN’s job here is to amplify and to put visibility on the possibilities of mitigating a food security crisis, and this is one of them,” she said, pointing at Dangote’s integrated industrial model.

Amina stated that the UN would continue to engage partners and countries that should collaborate in rising up to the challenge of food shortages and supply chain disruptions across Africa, driven by global economic pressures, climate-related shocks and geopolitical tensions, particularly in the Middle East.

President and Chief Executive of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, who hosted the delegation narrated the role of the industrial group in the supply of fuel and fertilizer in the continent.

He said the company has intensified shipments of fertilizer to support agricultural productivity and ease supply constraints.

“The challenges are many. One is of urea, which is fertilizer that we have. I think in the last couple of days we’ve been loading to mostly African countries, which we were not doing before,” he said, adding that the group’s refineries have prioritized fuel supply to African countries.

He assured African countries that the refinery’s 650,000 barrels per day single train processing plant has adequate capacity to meet their fuel demand. He said that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has been collaborating in meeting African fuel needs by supporting the refinery with adequate feedstock supply under favorable terms.
