Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited has intensified its call for stronger energy security, taking its message to the University of Ibadan and stressing that Nigeria’s path to economic growth depends on ending energy poverty and building a reliable, sustainable energy system.

At the university’s alumni homecoming event, the company’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Tony Attah, said no country can grow without secure energy, and Nigeria is no exception. Delivering the Distinguished Alumni Lecture titled “Energy, Security and Economic Sustainability: The Role of Nigeria’s Oil and Gas Sector in National Development,” he made clear that energy security is the engine that drives industry, jobs, and national prosperity.

“Energy and economic growth are inseparable,” Attah said. “Once a country secures its energy, it secures the opportunities that can transform the lives of millions of Nigerians.”

Attah described Renaissance as a company built to help Nigeria close its long-standing energy gaps and position the country at the center of Africa’s industrialisation. “With Renaissance, it’s a new beginning. We are rallying both private and public stakeholders to tackle the energy poverty that has limited our growth for decades.”

During his visit, Attah was welcomed at the Faculty of Technology by the Dean, Professor Isaac Bamgboye, and other senior faculty members.

The homecoming also featured the inauguration of the Renaissance JV Arena, a state-of-the-art synthetic mini football pitch donated by Renaissance and its joint venture partners—NNPC Limited, TotalEnergies, and Agip Energy and Natural Resources. Attah said the project reflects a deeper commitment to youth development, community support, and the kind of social investment that strengthens national capacity.

Beyond the corporate initiatives, Attah funded the renovation of the Independence Hall reading rooms where he once studied. He also joined fellow alumni to support the Light Up U.I. Project, a solar-powered streetlight scheme aimed at improving safety and campus life.

For his contributions to energy development, sustainability, and education, the university honoured Attah with an Award of Excellence.
