NDPHC strengthens network to boost power supply in Kaduna community

The Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited (NDPHC) has commenced a major electricity distribution project in Rigasa, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, to address nearly 15 years of inadequate power supply and improve electricity access for residents and businesses.

The project involves the installation of a two-kilometre 11kV line, a 1.5-kilometre 33kV line and a 7.5MVA, 33/11kV injection substation to strengthen the community’s distribution network and improve electricity supply.

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NDPHC, Engr. Jennifer Adighije, said the intervention highlighted the company’s commitment to bridging critical electricity infrastructure gaps and extending access beyond power generation.

Adighije, whose remarks were presented at the project’s groundbreaking ceremony by the Executive Director, Networks, Engr. Bello Babayo Bello, described the investment as a targeted intervention to ease residents’ hardship and support economic activities.

She explained that although NDPHC’s primary mandate includes power generation, the company’s interventions also cover transmission and distribution to address infrastructure deficiencies and expand electricity access across the country.

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, represented by his deputy, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, commended NDPHC for the initiative, describing it as a life-saving intervention that would help resolve the community’s longstanding electricity challenges.

The project followed sustained advocacy by the Convener of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Ideological Group (BAT-IG), Comrade Bamidele Atoyebi, who presented Rigasa’s electricity challenges to the NDPHC management.

In his vote of thanks, the Executive Director, Strategy and Commercial at NDPHC, Mr. Patrick Obahiagbon, appreciated the Kaduna State Government and the community for their cooperation and support towards the project.

The District Head of Rigasa, Hakimi Arc. Mohammed Aminu Idris, also commended the company’s management for its commitment to expanding electricity access.

NDPHC’s General Manager, Distribution, Mr. Dahiru Muritala Mohammed, whose department oversees the project, was also present at the ceremony.

The company said the Rigasa intervention reflects its commitment to extending critical electricity infrastructure beyond generation to bridge supply gaps, stimulate socioeconomic development and improve the quality of life in underserved communities across Nigeria.
