Heirs Energies has highlighted the growing importance of technology, data and operational optimisation in Nigeria’s efforts to increase oil and gas production, stressing that unlocking additional value from existing assets will be critical to the country’s energy growth.

The company’s Senior Vice President, Business Transformation & Innovation, Fidelis Akpoghiran, made the submission during a CNBC Africa discussion on Nigeria’s drive to raise oil and gas output.

The discussion examined the role of technology, data and digitalisation in improving the performance of mature oil and gas assets, as well as how operational optimisation can unlock additional value from existing infrastructure.

Akpoghiran also discussed the implications of evolving global energy and geopolitical developments for reliable producing countries such as Nigeria, drawing on Heirs Energies’ experience in transforming OML 17 and what the experience demonstrates about the technical and operating capabilities of indigenous energy companies.

A key focus of the discussion was the Heirs Energies OML 17 Integrated Operations Management Centre (IOMC), which provides real-time visibility across the asset and supports stronger coordination and faster, data-led decision-making.

According to Heirs Energies, the next phase of Nigeria’s energy growth will depend not only on new investment but also on how effectively existing assets are operated, optimised and transformed.
