The Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Limited has secured full cooperation of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) on timely delivery of NLNG’s Accelerated Asset Intervention (AAI) programme, a major revamp of Trains 1 to 6 at the Bonny Island plant.

The collaboration is expected to secure more reliable predictive maintenance, increase plant performance, and unlock greater economic value for Nigeria.

The discussions took place during the Nigerian Content Stakeholders Retreat held last week at NLNG’s operational base in Finima, Bonny Island, Rivers State.

NLNG’s General Manager, Production, Nnamdi Anowi, outlined the AAI programme, explaining that it will begin in 2026 and will require close alignment with NCDMB to fast-track approvals and enable efficient execution.

The programme focuses on overhauling the Trains and Common Facilities, which are central to the plant’s ability to operate at full capacity.

According to Anowi, predictive maintenance is critical to sustaining top quartile performance, extending asset lifespan, and reducing operational disruptions. He stated that the AAI programme will position NLNG to continue delivering reliable gas supply and stronger value addition to the Nigerian economy.

“The goal is to implement predictive maintenance that keeps our assets performing at the highest level so we can continue to deliver gas and value to the country,” he said. “This collaboration will help us retain NLNG’s place as a leading national asset.”

Responding, Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, represented by the Director of Capacity Building, Engr. Abayomi Bamidele, said the Board is committed to supporting the programme. He noted that the partnership between both organisations has a history of enabling operational success through clear regulatory pathways and accelerated approvals.

He referenced NCDMB’s support that helped launch the Train 7 Project during the COVID-19 period and stressed that similar alignment will help the AAI programme deliver predictable timelines, reduced downtime, and measurable value for the country.

Bamidele also underscored the importance of maximizing Nigerian content in the revamp of Trains 1 to 6 to keep economic value within the country and strengthen local capacity in line with the NOGICD Act.

The retreat later concluded with an Award Gala Dinner, where stakeholders celebrated achievements in Nigerian content development, including NLNG’s ongoing progress with Train 7, which currently provides thousands of jobs and significant economic contributions.
