The 28-year-old man who fell asleep along the train tracks survived a hit and drag from the massive machines after he dozed off while resting his head on a rail track in Peru.

Peruvian security officials said 28 year old Juan Carlos Tello did not feel the train coming before he was stuck and eventually standing up soon afterward.

General Javier Avalos of the town of Ate stated that Juan Carlos Tello was struck by a cargo train in Lima, Peru, while “apparently” in a “state of intoxication.”

Tello “fell asleep along the train tracks and did not feel the train coming,” Avalos added.

Footage of the moment shared by both the BBC and Al Jazeera shows a man believed to be Tello lying on the tracks and resting his head on the rail itself, with his legs hanging off an elevated portion of the track.

Seconds later, as bright lights appear behind the man, and just as he begins to lift his head, the cargo train can be seen moving in the man’s direction before making direct contact with him. After briefly dragging him around, the man in the video then stumbles off the tracks.

Multiple witnesses can then be seen checking on the individual, who eventually was able to stand up on his own.

A photo shared by the BBC at the end of the clip shows the man with a bandaged arm injury wearing a yellow jacket with blood on his cargo shorts as he was being assisted by officials.

“The train knocked him over but through some miracle did not kill him,” Avalos told multiple sources featured by Yahoo News.

The local security official added that the train stopped quickly after hitting the individual, who reportedly only suffered injuries to his left arm.
