UK gets new PM, as Starmer steps down

King Charles III of Great Britain, Monday, officially appointed Mr. Andy Burnham as the new Prime Minister following the resignation of Keir Starmer.

Starmer officially stepped down after tendering his resignation to the monarch at Buckingham Palace, paving the way for Burnham to assume office.

In a statement, Buckingham Palace confirmed that Burnham had accepted the King’s invitation to form a new government.

“Andrew Burnham MP accepted The King’s offer and kissed hands upon his appointment as Prime Minister,” the palace said, adding that King Charles had invited him to form the next administration.

Starmer had since last month informed the British Parliament of his decision to resign from office.
