President Donald Trump of the United States has declared his country’s willingness to participate in providing future security guarantee for Ukraine which is currently crumbling under heavy Russian military campaign that has so defied mediation.

President Trump who has held series of meetings with the warring parties and NATO allies told President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Monday that the United States would help guarantee Ukraine’s security in any deal to end Russia’s war.

The American president who currently plays the bridge between Russia and NATO over the raging Ukraine war hosted Ukrainian and European leaders in the White House on Monday while keeping in touch with President Vladimir Putin of Russia who recently held a separate meeting with Trump in Alaska.

Meetings of Monday dealt mainly on conditions for return of peace to Ukraine after about four years of full scale invasion by Russia and over 10 years of conflict that began with annexation of Ukrainian territory of Crimea by Russia.

Trump and Zelenskiy explores trilateral meeting with Putin but European leaders want to be part of any security deal on Ukraine.

President Emmanuel Macron of France said European leaders would need to be involved in subsequent meetings as well. “When we speak about security guarantees, we speak about the whole security of the European continent,” he told Trump.

European leaders also demand that Putin agree to a ceasefire before any talks can advance, but Trump says that ending the war quickly could be better.

Trump, who said repeatedly that he believes Putin wants to end the war, said he had spoken to Putin on Monday and would call him after the talks as well.

Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Ministry said on Monday that Moscow does not consider the deployment of NATO troops in Ukraine a viable solution to the conflict.

The war in Ukraine has killed or wounded more than a million people from both sides, including thousands of mostly Ukrainian civilians, according to analysts, and destroyed wide swaths of the country.

While peace efforts were ongoing, drone attack on a residential complex in the northern city of Kharkiv killed at least seven people, including a toddler and her 16-year-old brother. Strikes in the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia killed three people, they said.

Ukraine’s military said on Monday that its drones had struck an oil pumping station in Russia’s Tambov region, leading to the suspension of supplies via the Druzhba pipeline.
