Ebelechukwu Nwachukwu has emerged the first female Chairman of the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA).

Mrs Nwachukwu, who is also Managing Director of Rex Insurance Limited, will be inaugurated as the 27th chairman of the association on July 3.

Speaking at a press conference in Lagos, Tuesday, Nwachukwu unveiled a three-point agenda focused on collaboration, public awareness and engagement with regulators.

She said her administration would work with banks, fintech companies, microfinance institutions and other financial service providers to expand access to insurance products across the country.

According to her, one of the challenges facing the insurance sector is limited public understanding of insurance and how it works.

She said the association would focus on helping Nigerians better understand insurance by simplifying policy language, improving claims processes and increasing public awareness.

Nwachukwu also said the association would strengthen engagement with government and regulators by providing technical input on insurance-related policies and supporting member companies in meeting regulatory requirements.

She added that the Nigerian Insurance Industry Reform Agenda 2025 would be used to improve insurance awareness, compliance and adoption in both the public and private sectors.

Her appointment comes as operators in the industry continue to implement changes introduced under the Nigeria Insurance Industry Reform Act 2025.

Also speaking at the event, Olamide Olajolo chairman of the Investiture Publicity sub-committee, said local insurers would seek partnerships with international reinsurance firms to improve technical capacity and risk underwriting.
