Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) said Wednesday it is targeting crude oil production of 1.9 million barrels per day (mbpd) after output reached 1.86 mbpd in May.

NUPRC Chief Executive Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, who disclosed this during a courtesy visit to the Chairman, Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), Dr. Zacch Adedeji, in Abuja, said the sector is recovering and production is ‘ramping up,’ even as she warned that sustaining growth will require addressing infrastructure gaps and improving asset integrity across upstream operations.

“We are back to production. We are ramping up now, and we want to continue working,” Eyesan said, adding that human capacity development remains critical to long-term expansion.

The meeting focused on closer collaboration between the NUPRC and the NRS to improve transparency, accountability and efficiency in revenue collection from the oil and gas industry.

Eyesan praised recent reforms at the revenue agency and said digitisation of NUPRC operations, a central part of the commission’s reform agenda, has largely been achieved.

Responding, Adedeji pledged continued cooperation with the NUPRC, just as assured that the NRS will support royalty collection and other upstream revenue processes to boost transparent revenue generation for the country.
