NLNG’s inaugural Creative Arts Prize receives 98 entries

The Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) has received 98 entries for the maiden edition of The Nigeria Prize for Creative Arts following the close of submissions on Thursday.
The inaugural competition, which focuses on documentary filmmaking, is themed “Identity” and is open to Nigerian youths aged 35 and below. Participants were invited to tell compelling stories about Nigeria through documentaries that reflect the nation’s heritage, culture, and resilience.
Speaking during the handover of entries, NLNG’s General Manager for External Relations and Sustainable Development, Sophia Horsfall, described the response as proof of the immense creative talent among young Nigerians. Horsfall, represented by the Manager of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs, Anne-Marie Palmer-Ikuku, said the quality and number of submissions highlighted the importance of storytelling in shaping national identity and projecting Nigeria positively to the world.
“The remarkable response to the Nigeria Prize for Creative Arts reaffirms our belief in the power of storytelling as a tool for national development,” she said. “These entries reflect the passion, innovation, and depth of talent within Nigeria’s youth.”
Horsfall noted that the prize was created to inspire a new generation of storytellers capable of contributing authentic African perspectives to global conversations. She added that the initiative aligns with NLNG’s broader commitment to human capital development and excellence, building on the legacy of The Nigeria Prize for Literature and The Nigeria Prize for Science.
The Advisory Board for The Nigeria Prize for Literature and The Nigeria Prize for Creative Arts, chaired by Professor Akachi Adimora-Ezeigbo, will oversee the adjudication process. Documentary filmmaker Joel Benson serves as Technical Adviser to the board.
Receiving the entries on behalf of the judges and advisory board, Prof. Adimora-Ezeigbo described the submission stage as a defining moment for the prize.
“With the submission of these entries, the prize has truly come alive,” she said, while commending the secretariat for its dedication to the process.
She also urged the judges to uphold professionalism, integrity, and excellence throughout the evaluation process.
The submitted documentaries will undergo detailed assessment based on originality, storytelling, production quality, and overall impact.
The Nigeria Prize for Creative Arts carries a cash reward of $20,000, with the winner expected to be announced at the Grand Award Night in October 2026.
NLNG said the initiative is part of its continued investment in strengthening Nigeria’s creative industry and empowering young Nigerians to tell the country’s stories on the global stage.
