Renaissance wins Energy Deal of the Year at NIES 2026
Renaissance Africa Energy Company on Tuesday night won the Energy Deal of the Year for 2025 at the Awards Night of the 2026 Nigeria International Energy Summit (NIES) in Abuja.
The award recognises the company’s $2.4 billion acquisition of Shell’s onshore assets in March 2025, a deal widely described as one of the most significant transactions in the evolution of Nigeria’s energy sector.
The NIES awards committee said the transaction marked a major shift in the industry, citing Renaissance’s leadership in deepening local participation in upstream operations and strengthening Nigeria’s energy autonomy.
According to the committee, the deal represented the first time in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector that ownership, operational control, and strategic direction of such assets moved decisively into Nigerian hands.
“Some transactions change balance sheets. This one changed history,” the committee said in its citation.
Receiving the award, Renaissance Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Tony Attah, said the recognition affirmed the capacity of Nigerians to build and lead energy enterprises at scale.
“This recognition is deeply meaningful because it affirms a bold belief that Nigerians can build, operate, and lead world-class energy enterprises,” Attah said. “The onshore asset acquisition from an international oil company was more than a transaction; it was a turning point for indigenous participation in our industry.”
He dedicated the award to the company’s workforce, partners, and host communities, noting that their collective efforts were redefining Nigeria’s role in the global energy landscape.
“Together, we are proving that Nigeria is not just a host to global energy, but can be the driver, the innovator, and the standard-bearer for Africa’s energy future,” he said.
Renaissance’s recognition at NIES 2026 adds to a series of industry awards won by the company in 2025, including the Energy Excellence Award at the Nigeria Oil and Gas Energy Week in July.
In the same year, Renaissance was named Nigerian Content International Upstream Operator of the Year, while Attah received the Local Content Icon of the Year award at the Nigeria Oil and Gas Opportunity Fair organised by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board.
