The Nigerian upstream petroleum industry pushed significant 24.42 million barrels of hydrocarbon liquids into the domestic and foreign markets in the month of August, 2025.

The Crude Oil and Condensate Production Report for August 2025, released by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) on Saturday, also showed the industry produced crude oil and condensates at daily average of 1.63 million barrels per day (bpd).

Oracle Intelligence reports that whereas crude oil and condensate are mostly accounted collectively in production volumes, the two commodities are different, separate and distinct in character from one another.

Petroleum reservoirs may contain both crude oil and natural gas, but some reservoirs contain only natural gas and its condensates. However, both crude oil and less volatile condensate could be used for same or similar purposes. They are also mostly blended to produce a lighter refinery feedstock.

In posting records from the nation’s export terminals where crude oil and condensate are collated for export, the NUPRC reported that crude oil and condensate output in August dipped to 1.63 million barrels per day, down from the 1.71 million barrels per day posted in July.

Head of Media and Strategic Communications at the NUPRC, Eniola Akinkuotu, explained that the 4.7% drop in average daily production rate on a month-on-month basis resulted from “a single day unscheduled maintenance at an oil facility.”

He did not name the facility or the operators of the asset where production of both crude oil and condensate was disrupted.

Arising from the disruption was drop in cumulative industry production of both crude oil which declined by 4.8% from 1.5 million bopd in July 2025.

Load-outs from the nation’s terminals totaled 24.42 million barrels in the month, comprising 8.08 million barrels of crude oil and 915, 200 barrels of condensate, totaling 8.99 million barrels of liquids at Forcados.

At the Bonny Terminal, Nigeria pushed out 5.8 million barrels of crude and 418,270 barrels of condensate, translating to combined 6.26 million barrels of petroleum liquids.

Qua Iboe Terminal recorded 4.94 million barrels of crude and 50,500 barrels of condensate, posting a total of 4.99 million barrels of liquids.

At the Escravos Oil Terminal, 4.08 million barrels of crude oil and 107,000 barrels of condensate totaling 4.18 million barrels were loaded out.

Year on year, the NUPRC stated that the 1.63 mbd production in August 2025, improved on the 1.58 mbd recorded in the same period in 2024.

It stated that the 1.43 mbd produced in August 2025, grew 5.47% from the 1.36 mbd in August 2024.

“This reflects a steady recovery and improved operational performance across the industry,” the regulator stated.

However, daily condensate production in August stood at 197,229 bpd, reflecting a slight decline from 220,435 bpd in August 2024.

“Notably, Nigeria’s crude oil output in August met 96% of its OPEC quota, which is set at 1.5 million bopd. This demonstrates the country’s capacity to meet its production targets under the OPEC agreement.

“In the month of August, the lowest and peak combined crude and condensate production were 1.59 million bopd and 1.85 million bopd respectively,” the NUPRC declared.
