Street mob in Niger State has beaten and set ablaze a woman in the Niger State after she was alleged to have blasphemed Islamic religion while turning down love advances from a man that approached her with mock proposal.
Police stated that the mob burnt the woman to death after accusing her of blaspheming the Prophet Muhammad.

The woman simply identified as Amaye ran into trouble when she responded to a man who jokingly proposed marriage her. It was reported that her response was considered blasphemous by some people in the area.
The police stated that an investigation was under way to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators.
Niger State police spokesman, Wasiu Abiodun said Amaye was set ablaze before a reinforcement of security teams could arrive at the scene.
He appealed to members of the public to remain calm and not to take the law into their own hands following the killing on Saturday in Kasuwan-Garba town.
