The Harvard University is challenging the government of the United States over the withdrawal of its right to admit international students following support to anti-Semitist protests over the Gaza war.

The Trump administration revoked Harvard University’s ability to enroll international students on Thursday, and is forcing current foreign students to transfer to other schools or lose their legal status in the U.S.

The government of President Donald Trump is also threatening to expand the crackdown to other colleges amidst ongoing immigration reforms in the country.

The spar between Harvard and the US federal administration amplifies a major win for the Palestinian terrorist group, Hamas, which spurred a murderous with Israel with a frenzied invasion of Southern Israel.

The withdrawal affected new and existing international students at the institutions colleges; including 23-year-old future queen of Belgium, Princess Elisabeth, who has just completed her first year of two year masters degree programme at Harvard University.

Princess Elisabeth is the heir to the Belgian throne, according to the Belgian Royal Palace’s spokesperson Lore Vandoorne who adds in a statement that is studying Public Policy at Harvard, a two-year master’s degree program that according to the university’s website broadens students’ perspectives and sharpens their skills for “successful career in public service.”

The princess who is also the eldest of four children born to King Philippe and Queen Mathilde had earned a degree in history and politics from the UK’s Oxford University.

Trump’s sweeping withdrawal of Harvard’s certification targeting foreign students did not offer any regard to the privileged; and the Belgian Palace’s communication director, Xavier Baert, stated: “We are analyzing this at the moment and will let things settle. A lot can still happen in the coming days and weeks.”

Harvard admitted to its community of scholars that the US federal administration has canceled its the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) for the 2025–26 academic year.

The university which protests the government’s action criticized it as threat to academic independence, noting that the repeal of the SEVP is unlawful and retaliatory to the school’s hosting of pro-Palestinian protests that rocked campuses across the US following Israeli offensive against Hamas terrorist organization in Gaza.

The Israeli military campaign came in response to surprise invasion of Southern Israel on October 7, 2023 by Hamas extremists who murdered over 1200 civilians in cold blood at their homes and dragged over 250 into hostage in Gaza.

Israel’s response was swift and strong, leaving a trail of destruction in Gaza where over 50,000 Palestinians including militants and civilians have been killed. Hamas has refused pleas from Russia, Palestinian Authority in West Bank and the United States to release the hostages and end the war.

But the group has instead sponsored mass protests around the world to swing sentiments against Israel. It also drives media campaigns highlighting civilian casualties of the Gaza war but at the same time refused to release the Israeli hostages that for the basis for the retaliatory war.

The US Secretary Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, had demanded that Harvard submit records of alleged “illegal and violent activities” by foreign students by 30 April or risk losing its certification.

Loss of the SEVP certification entails strong impact on nearly 7,000 foreign students that constitute significant proportion of the institution’s 10,000 student population and account for nearly 40 percent Harvard’s tuition revenues.

In its message to its community, Harvard played on the theme of retaliation against the United States’ government, alluding to protests hosted in its campuses in support of Hamas which the United States and Europe designate a terrorist organization.

Harvard stated that the Trump administration was retaliating to the refusal of the university to yield to its control of the university’s curriculum, faculty, and student body.

The institution stated that it would follow up the legal complaint with a motion for a temporary restraining order. It added that it would strive to support its students and scholars.
