Leading energy industry gender equity advocate, Women In Energy Network (WIEN), on Tuesday in Lagos hosted an open party for midstream and downstream industry participants in its learning programmes.
Executive Secretary, Engr Asanimo Omezi, stated that the event organized by the group’s Vice President in charge of the sector, Mrs Godrey Ogbeche, was conceived to dismantle the walls of classrooms and webinars to bring mentors, instructors and learners to broader close interaction and greater pool of ideas.
Engr Omezi declared that the greatest product WIEN brings to the energy industry is value delivered through knowledge and experience sharing, capacity and capability sharing, and confidence building for younger professionals in the industry.
At the event which was hosted at the Ebony Place in Victoria Island, Lagos, she pointed out that the only way forward for the members of the group is forward.
Vice President in charge of midstream and downstream energy industry in WIEN, Mrs Ogbeche, who welcomed guests to the mentorship revelry, stated that the event became necessary to enable WIEN harvest direct feedbacks, suggestions and reviews on its capacity programmes aimed at providing competencies for female professionals in the midstream and downstream energy industry.
President of WIEN, Mrs Eyono Fatai-Williams described the networking hangout as epoch making, stating that WIEN provides knowledge and experience river for horses that are on long career journey.
She described WIEN as a platform that connects capacity to careers; adding that the hangout is conceived to provide connectivity between readiness and opportunities. She told the participants that WIEN women are distinguished by value, adding that present positions on the job prepare professionals for future opportunities.
In presenting the participants with best wishes from the board of WIEN, Mr Fatai-Williams reminded them that the goal is not to lock into gender competition at work places but to advance value propositions towards achieving collective corporate objectives.
The hangout anchored by Bukola Beefcfroft of Aradel Holdings featured experience sharing presentations from company CEOs to rookie employees seeking to land foot holding in their places of employment.
In driving the show, Mrs Tolulope Alabi of NNPC Retails called up experienced members of the group to offer insights into operations of the midstream and downstream energy industry and let new professionals in the field understand pathways to progress.
Among many speakers at the event, the CEO of Elint Services, Engr Charlotte Essiet, pointed out the need to be alert, cautious and observant in order to tap into existing onsite workplace experiences for new female employees.
She urged the new professionals in the group to fill up their psyche with confidence and launch forward with positivity and alertness, reminding them that the only direction to sustainable growth is value on the table.
