President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday forwarded 28 names to the National Assembly for consideration in dying minute effort o beat the constitutional requirement to announce constitute his cabinet within two months of inauguration, a list the contoured his line of loyalty during the flawed February presidential election.
The constitution however provides that every of the 36 states of the country should represented in the federal cabinet, hinting that President Bola Tinubu might still provide a complementary list to fill up remaining cabinet positions.
Tinubu said in a letter to the Senate that more names would be forwarded in due course.
The provisional list comes towards the end of the constitutional deadline of 60 days after he was sworn into office on May 29.
It is traditional that the president assigns portfolios to the nominees after they have scaled screening by the nation’s legislators. And with the All Progressive Congress (APC) in control at the National Assembly, the ministerial list is expected to have a smooth glide to confirmation.
Expectedly, former Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State who openly worked against his old political allies to secure winning votes for Tinubu in his Labour Party dominated Rivers State stands out in the list. The majority in the list is expectedly drawn from the ruling party and close associates of the president.
