Following conviction of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu on all charges brough against him, the prosecution lawyer is calling for death sentence for the embattled leader of Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB).

The government lawyers also call for continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu until the judgment is executed.

Prosecution counsel, Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, told the court that the sections of the law under which Kanu was charged and convicted carried a death sentence without any option.

Awomolo, who was addressing the court after the pronouncement, said the court has no discretion to exercise than to impose maximum punishment on Kanu in line with the dictates of the law.

He argued that throughout the trial, Kanu did not show remorse for the offences he committed but rather chose to be militant, arrogant and unruly in his attitude.

Awomolo also demanded that all properties seized from Kanu be forfeited to the Federal Government.

The prosecution counsel also demanded that Kanu be taken to prison where his security will be guaranteed till when the judgment against him is executed.

Arguments over the fate of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu came after Federal High Court, Abuja, on Thursday, convicted him of all the offences brought against him in the seven-count terrorism charge.

In his judgement, trial judge, Justice James Omotosho, found Kanu guilty on all the charges pressed against him by the Department of State Services.

The court held that the prosecution led sufficient credible evidence to establish its case against Kanu.

Justice Omotosho said the court had no option but to believe the evidence led by the prosecution since the defendant failed to enter his defence but chose to gamble by resting his case on that of the prosecution.
