The Labour Party in Abia State is bubbling as  top politicians have been joining its fold.

Those who joined the party on Friday, May 27, 2022, were a renowned banker, Dr ALex Otti, who defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a member of Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Ginger Onwusibe who dumped the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP), among others.

Otti, was a governorship aspirant on the platform of APC but announced his withdrawal  from the party’s governorship primary last Tuesday.

On the other hand, Onwusibe, a member of the state legislature and strongman of Isiala Ngwa North politics, wanted to upgrade to the House of Representatives. It was alleged that he was pressurised to abandon his quest because his local government was likely to produce the governor in 2023.

Based on that, Onwusibe sought to return to Abia State House of Assembly but was denied the ticket as he shockingly lost in the House of Assembly primary.

At a ceremony held at his party office in Umuahia to announce his defection to Labour Party, Otti made it clear that he would pursue his governorship ambition on the Labour Party platform to continue his fight to liberate Abia from bad governance and lack of development.

He promised to industrialize Abia if the electorate voted for him in the 2023 general election.

Addressing the gathering, Otti said: “What we are coming to do is to industrialize this place.

If it requires borrowing, we will borrow to do it. Because if you borrow for a regenerative investment, you will make money and pay back and keep making money in perpetuity

“I have come to work for you Abians. The days of non-payment of salaries would be over and I promise to tackle insecurity and unemployment.”

“I cry each time I see Aba. I will fix Aba. Umuahia is a glorified village. No development. Enough is enough.”

In the same vein the Onwusibe lamented that despite his contributions to the PDP and his lofty achievements in Isiala Ngwa North, he was treated like a stranger.

He urged his supporters and all lovers of good governance to use their PVCs in avenging the injustice done to him.

The lawmaker advised all Abians to support Otti in his mission to rescue Abia from the bondage of bad leadership.

“My understanding of the political terrain of Ngwa block and other parts of Abia and the competency of Dr Alex Otti would make Labour Party to take over Abia State in 2023,” Onwusibe said.
