NGX: UBA, Access Bank , FBNH most active to boost  market  turnover

*  NGXASI dips further by -0.19% to  maintain negative posture

 United Bank for Africa (UBA), Access Bank and FBNH were the most active to boost market turnover   as equities market closed on a negative note. NGXASI depreciated by -0.19% to close at 47,340.86 basis points as against -0.02% depreciation recorded previously. Its Year-to-Date (YTD) return currently stands at +10.83%.  

United Bank for Africa recorded the highest volume of 23.4 million traded shares, followed by Access Bank (10.4m), FBN Holdings (10.2m) and UAC of Nigeria (9.69m). SEPLAT and ZenithBank topped market value list 

Market breadth closed negative as Unitykap led 14 Gainers as against 23 Losers topped by Cornerstone Instance Company at the end of today’s session an unimproved performance when compared with previous outlook.      

Market turnover closed negative as volume moved down by -85.69% as against +11.00% uptick recorded in the previous session..

At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 183,255,994 shares in 3,779 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 2,475,182,940.21, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Monday, March 14), today’s data shows 86% decline in volume, 69% decline in turnover, and 20% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 25.5 trillion.

In the aggregate, 110 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 14 gainers and 23 losers. Veritas Kapital Assurance led the gainers with 4.76% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.22 per share, followed by Chams (+4.55%), Eterna (+4.17%) and Unilever Nigeria (+3.85%). On the losing side, Cornerstone Insurance Company came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 8.82% at NGN 0.62 per share, followed by Multiverse Mining & Exploration (-8.33%), SCOA Nigeria (-7.69%) and Prestige Assurance Company (-6.12%).

Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 87.81 (-0.19%) points to close at 47,340.86, representing a 1-week gain of 0.4%, a 4-week gain of 0.59%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 10.83%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (-0.23%; +1.51% 1WK; +3.73% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (-0.24%; +0.77% 1WK; +5.52% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+0.17%; +1.25% 1WK; -2.96% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+0.01%; +0.13% 1WK; +5.41% YTD), NGX Banking Index (-0.09%; +1.73% 1WK; +10.6% YTD), and NGX Main Board Index (-0.12%; +0.46% 1WK; +14.59% YTD).
