NGX: Investors record N45.91bn gain as ASI appreciates by 0.18%

Equities market closed on a positive note, as NGXASI appreciated by +0.18% to close at 48,22 Market breadth closed positive as Berger led 29 gainers as against nine losers topped by SCOA at the end of today’s session an improved performance when compared with previous outlook.

3.86 basis points as against +1.25% appreciation recorded previously. Its Year-to-Date (YTD) return currently stands at +12.89%.

Market turnover closed negative as volume moved down by 30.00% as against 4.35% downtick recorded in the previous session. Custody Insurance, Oando, and Fidelity Bank were the most active to boost market turnover. NB and MTNN topped market value list.

At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 244,694,160 shares in 4,859 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 3,151,308,075.82, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, April 20), today’s data shows 30% decline in volume, 15% decline in turnover, but 6% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 26 trillion.

In the aggregate, 114 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 29 gainers and nine losers. Berger Paints led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 7.70 per share, followed by Eterna (+10%), Oando (+9.9%) and Meyer (+9.84%).

 On the losing side, SCOA Nigeria came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.77% at NGN 1.94 per share, followed by Associated Bus Company (-6.45%), Neimeth International Pharma (-3.55%) and May & Baker Nigeria (-2.95%). Custodian & Allied recorded the highest volume of 38.7 million traded shares, followed by Oando (19.5m), Fidelity Bank (17.3m) and Nigerian Breweries (15.3m).

Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 85.15 (0.18%) points to close at 48,223.86, representing a 1-week gain of 2.16%, a 4-week gain of 2.26%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 12.89%.

Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (+0.42%; +2.15% 1WK; +5.5% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (+0.2%; +1.46% 1WK; +6.45% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+1.61%; +4.65% 1WK; +35.66% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+0.51%; -2.35% 1WK; +5.61% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+0.44%; +1.23% 1WK; -5.64% YTD), and NGX Pension Index (+0.43%; +1.83% 1WK; +9.84% YTD).
