NGX: investors lose over n20bn in mid-week trade

 FCMB, Transcorp and Zenith Bank were the most active to boost market turnover as equities market closed on a positive note. NGXASI appreciated by +0.14% to close at 47,394.53 basis points as against +0.12% appreciation recorded previously. Its Year-to-Date (YTD) return currently stands at +10.95%.  

FCMB Group recorded the highest volume of 104 million traded shares, followed by Transcorp Nigeria (17m), Zenith Bank (15.5m) and RT Briscoe (12.6m). ZENITHBANK and FCMB topped market value list

Market breadth closed positive as LINKASSURE led 23 Gainers as against 15 Losers topped by ACADEMY at the end of today’s session an unimproved performance when compared with previous outlook.

Market turnover closed positive as volume moved up by +18.73% as against -25.64% downtick recorded in the previous session. 

At the end of the first weekday of trading,, a total of 300,762,671 shares in 5,434 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 2,771,015,176.86, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, February 25), today’s data shows 19% improvement in volume and 27% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 25.5 trillion.

In the aggregate, 116 NGX equities participated in trading, ending with 23 gainers and 15 losers. Linkage Assurance led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.55 per share, followed by Royal Exchange (+9.6%), Sunu Assurances Nigeria (+7.69%) and Regency Alliance Insurance (+7.69%). On the losing side, Academy Press came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.69% at NGN 1.77 per share, followed by RT Briscoe (-9.57%), Jaiz Bank (-5.19%) and Vitafoam Nigeria (-4.9%).

Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 66.11 (0.14%) points to close at 47,394.53, representing a 1-week gain of 0.34%, a 4-week gain of 1.65%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 10.95%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (+0.45%; +0.26% 1WK; +3.97% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (+0.17%; +0.41% 1WK; +5.68% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+0.1%; +0.67% 1WK; +5.99% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+0.99%; +1.5% 1WK; -3.57% YTD), NGX ASeM Index (+0.74%; +0.74% 1WK; -1.74% YTD), and NGX Banking Index (+0.55%; +0.1% 1WK; +11.69% YTD).
