NGX: GTCO, Zenith Bank, UBA , Fidelity Bank most active stocks to boost market turnover as ASI appreciates by 0.34%

GTCO, Zenith Bank,UBA  and Fidelity Bank were the most active to boost market turnover. MTNN and GTCO topped market value list as equities market closed on a positive note. GTCO recorded the highest volume of 65.9 million traded shares, followed by Zenith Bank (43.9m), UBA (28.9m) and Fidelity Bank (28.5m).

NGXASI appreciated by +0.34% to close at 47,367.31 basis points as against +0.72% appreciation recorded previously. Its Year-to-Date (YTD) return currently stands at +10.89%.

Market breadth closed Positive as DN MEYER led 31 gainers as against 16 losers topped by Sterling Bank at the end of today’s session an unimproved performance when compared with previous outlook.

Market turnover closed positive as volume moved up by 59.68% as against 9.25% uptick recorded in the previous session. GTCO, Zenith Bank,UBA  and Fidelity Bank were the most active to boost market turnover. MTNN and GTCO topped market value list.

At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 391,889,051 shares in 5,419 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 9,951,568,102.23, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Tuesday, April 12), today’s data shows 60% improvement in volume, 117% improvement in turnover, but 7% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 25.5 trillion.

In the aggregate, 108 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 31 gainers and 16 losers. Meyer led the gainers with 9.56% share price appreciation closing at NGN 1.49 per share, followed by Ikeja Hotel (+9.24%), Caverton Offshore Support Group (+6.78%) and Union Bank Nigeria (+6.56%).

On the losing side, Sunu Assurances Nigeria came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 7.69% at NGN 0.36 per share, followed by Sterling Bank (-6%), Unilever Nigeria (-4.51%) and Wapic Insurance (-4.44%). GTCO recorded the highest volume of 65.9 million traded shares, followed by Zenith Bank (43.9m), UBA (28.9m) and Fidelity Bank (28.5m).

Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) climbed 162.28 (0.34%) points to close at 47,367.31, representing a 1-week gain of 1.29%, a 4-week gain of 0.01%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 10.89%.
