NGX: Equities Market loses N83.22bn as ASI depreciates  by -0.29%


Nigerian Equities Market retracted to close in red at the end of today’s trading session amid positive market breadth as against previous positive session.

The NGX All-Share index dipped by -0.29% to close at 52,944.09 basis points as against the +0.34% gain recorded at the end of the previous trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records N83.22bn loss.YTD, the NGXASI Stands at +23.94%

At the end of the first weekday of trading ,a total of 374,183,929 shares in 6,854 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 4,963,737,979.15, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, May 13), today’s data shows 23% improvement in volume, 39% improvement in turnover, but 2% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 28.5 trillion.

In the aggregate, 115 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 27 gainers and 21 losers. McNichols led the gainers with 9.7% share price appreciation closing at NGN 1.47 per share, followed by Northern Nigeria Flour Mills (+9.55%), Transcorp Nigeria (+8.53%) and Wapic Insurance (+7.14%). On the losing side, Champion Breweries came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.84% at NGN 3.94 per share, followed by Glaxo Smithkline Consumer (-9.49%), International Breweries (-9.09%) and Neimeth International Pharma (-8.33%). Transcorp Nigeria recorded the highest volume of 88.6 million traded shares, followed by Jaiz Bank (87.4m), Access Holdings (28.8m) and International Breweries (16.2m).

Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) shed 154.37 (-0.29%) points to close at 52,944.09, representing a 1-week gain of 2.01%, a 4-week gain of 12.16%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 23.94%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (-0.09%; +2.98% 1WK; +16.39% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (-0.24%; +3.07% 1WK; +19.36% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+2.41%; +1.74% 1WK; -4.05% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0.6%; +7.08% 1WK; +61.72% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (-0.01%; +0.96% 1WK; +25.17% YTD), and NGX Pension Index (-0.11%; +2.34% 1WK; +20.88% YTD).
